2nd year project
INFILL
Studio: 2500 – Professor Megan Jackson – 2019
Project INFILL Served the purpose of studying the relationships between two distinct programmatic elements, which had to share the same space and at the same time maintain their individuality. During the design process I built a series of positive or “empty space” models to explore the possible relationships different programs could share within the main volume assigned to us. The series of studies derived from that process lead me to my concept ,which organized the programs sequentially in a journey through the space, exploring the idea of movement and change.
1st year project
NEST
Studio: 1501 – Professor Megan Jackson – 2019
The goal for this project was to create a meditation space, where one can enjoy their own peace of mind and escape from the outside world. The project focuses heavily on the progression from public to private spaces, in order to deliver the level of intimacy the “nest” requires. This is achieved through the layering of spaces that gradually become more enclosed as one moves through the program.
SKIN PROJECT
Studio: 1500 – Professor Ross Wienert Year: 2018
This project intended to explore the possible relationships one can create by using the density of a pattern in a grid. I decided to go a step further and create a layered system for the skin that would also allow density to vary through the superposition of patterns.
PATTERN PROJECT
Studio: 1500 – Professor Ross WienertYear: 2018
Repeating elements are a very powerful tool for design. It allows for the manipulation of light, space and movement by providing a system the eyes can respond to. For this project I intended to create a panel that would not only diffuse light but also change its color as it shined on the back of the geometric pattern.
3-D OPERATIONS
Studio: 1500 – Professor Ross Wienert Year: 2018
Shapes, colors, and light are possibly the main defining elements of space. This project was my first experience of mixing all of these elements to create a cohesive field where sequences of movement take place.
STAIR PROJECT
Studio: 1501 – Professor Megan JacksonYear: 2019
This project consisted of the meticulous data collection of the staircase located at the UH Student Center. I was expected to collect accurate measurements, document every possible detail of the construction and reproduce them in a final model.
BUILDING ANALYSIS – YIN YANG HOUSE
Studio: 1501 – Professor Megan Jackson Year: 2019
This was a deeper Dive into a professional architectural project by the Brooks+Scarpa group. The project’s intent was to observe and recreate the representation methods of an assigned house, which in my case was the Yin Yang House in Venice, CA. Proper representation through technical drafting and physical model making are essential parts of the profession and this project helped me to further develop these skills.
CUT AND FOLD
Studio: 1501 – Professor Megan Jackson Year: 2019
This project consisted of a series of exercises involving the manipulation of a 2-D image into a 3-D volume. After arriving at the desired form, I assigned to it programmatic value by separating public from private and determining circulation. Because I used a drawing by Zaha Hadid as my 2-D base, the form I arrived at was very organic and due to that I decided to render it in a model made of a copper mesh.
